Help for ideas for boys quilts.

I have 5 grandsons. I am looking for possible patterns for boys 10 and 13, very involved in sports.
1 grandson is 4 and I was thinking about taking some of the pictures he has colored and make patterns from the pictures and then piece some of them together and sew onto blocks for his quilt. He colors very well and stays in the lines. The youngest is 3 yrs old and he likes ball of all kinds. The two older ones are brothers and the two younger ones are brothers. Any suggestions, or patterns or anything. All help is needed and wanted. :)

We used the alternating 4-patch (like the Quilts for Kids) for 2 of our nephews using motorcycles for one and football for the other. They turned out great and the boys love them. They are very easy to do, which is one of the reasons we picked the pattern. If you're looking for something more complex the Carpenter Star is good.

For my farm kid grandson I used a disappearing 9 patch and three fabrics. I used a John Deere tractor print and a green and a tan. The fabrics didn't exactly go together but they worked really well for fields. I like the D9P done with just three fabrics.

Made both of my nephews a basketball quilt, it's a basketball court with lines on the parkay floor(shooting lines), and a hoop, with a ball(circles in orange, with black zigzag lines to make it look like a ball. there were 5 different sizes going to the net. They loved it, see if I can find a pic.

You could make this quilt using a sports themed fabric and two coordinating fabrics. http://www.maryquilts.com/quick-strippie/
This pattern is really easy to adjust if you want to make it bigger.

I pick a sports fabric for my main fabric for boys quilts and then build around it. Do they have a favorite team? You could maybe make a quilt using fabric from their favorite team.
Or do they have a hobby or interest that they enjoy, like astronomy? You could use a fabric with planets and stars.
I am making a quilt for my son using a number of golfing fabrics. He is an avid golfer and will love it. There are so many great novelty fabrics out there that you should be able to find something.

Hi, Discover what each child likes, be it sports, hobby, or other interest. There is a lot of fabric out that for each. You just have to research and find it. Wish I could be of more help. I just finished a soccer quilt for my great nephew. It is reversible so he can change it around. Good luck.
