    I agree, I think that if you use the same solid colors from the front and use the two yards it would be fine. Great quilt, I think you GS is going to love it.

    Great quilt. I'm sure your grandson will love it. I'd use the leftover fabric on the back - either solid borders around it or
    maybe blocks of the route 66 fabric and blocks of solid fabrics - checkerboard style.

    patski, I love the idea of the checkers fabric. She could give him a box of checkers along with the quilt, and show him how he could use the reverse.

    What about just making a backing using large squares? You could use leftovers from the top or maybe the black and white check with solid blue squares. He could use either side that way. Love his quilt, btw.

    Your quilt is very nice. I like all the ideas listed but I most like the clouds fabric. Thanks for sharing.
