    Trying it on a sample piece of fabric sounds like a good idea to me, then hand wash it for the final test. I have a white marking pencil I got from Joann's. Very pretty design, the combo is eyecatching!

    I would use the sewline ceramic marker for the black. it wodks on my black batik.
    For the other colors try the light gray Multip Pastel Chalk pencil. Can get them in a large art supply store. They are washable and erasable. or can check www.quiltingstencils.com
