I like the last picture the best, that maybe partly because of the scale of the shot.
I used the jumbo rickrack on a quilt for my grandson. Not for when he's a baby, but when he's around 3 or so. There are different solutions, I stitched through both sides in mine.
This picture is more about the stuffed applique, but you can see the rickrack.

I did not like the elelphant print for the borders because
it detracted from the appliqued elephants
The colors were not quite "right" for what I could see of the other prints used
the scale seemed "off" - too small
But - this is my opinion -
If using rick-rack - shrink it before sewing it to the item. It will add texture - is that a plus or minus?
