I'm having an anxiety attack over this and I don't know why. I've made six or seven quilts from crib size to a full. This is my first queen and it's finally for my bed.

I want to do Trip Around The World with the attached fabrics. I have two fabrics I'm not happy with and will probably switch them out. I will have a total of 15 fabrics when I'm done. I want to do 2" strips.

I have a queen extra plush that sits high on an antique four poster bed that has a headboard and a footboard. The footboard is really tight so I won't be able to have a ton of fabric to tuck in. I want my quilt to cover the mattress and box springs and have a tuck for the pillows.

The measurements are

Mattress 60" x 80"
Mattress 13" high
Box Spring 9.5" high

So I get this-

Width
60"+13"+13"+9.5"+9.5"+3"(Shrink)=108" Wide

Length
80"+13"+9.5"+12"(Pillow Tuck)+3"(Shrink)=117.5

I really think this is too long.

I find it easier to sleep & easier to make the bed when the quilt is not two wide. I like to be able to stick my leg out when I get too warm. So, I use a matching bedskirt to cover the box springs. Washing a hugh quilt would also be a problem for me.

I like your pretty fabrics! I also like the Trip Around The World quilt, and have made several. I think your fabrics for that quilt are a good choice.

I think you don't need some of the length if you are using a footboard and don't need the fall at the foot.

60"+13"+13"+9.5"+9.5"+3"(Shrink)=108" Wide looks right

80"+13"+9.5"+12"(Pillow Tuck)+3"(Shrink)=117.5 take away the 13 and 9.5 since the footboard would interfere, and maybe add another 3 or 4" to your shrinkage allowance instead, so you have a little to tuck at the bottom.

I make my queen quilts about 90x90. Your measurements would fit my king bed. Good luck and post a finished pic.

one idea is to make trip around the world pillow shams for your bed instead of the tuck, then you don't have to worry about the extra for the tuck.

The measurements sound right for a bedspread. I only have comforters and bed skirts and still have to make them at least 95" to cover thick mattress on my queen bed. I usually make pillow shams. I do not use quilt for cover at night, only to decorate the made bed as it is too warm to sleep with quilt here.

Forget the math on paper and take a sheet and make up the bed as you want the quilt to be and then measure the sheet.

Take a flat bedsheet and drape it over the edge of your bed until it hangs the way you envision. Measure the drop on the side and the foot.
Move sheet to create pillow tuck. measure tuck

Add 2 sides, 1 foot and pillow tuck.
