The reason the partial seam technique would be used is to REDUCE the number of seams.
Sure, you could take the diagram of the quilt and draw lines so you have a ton of 9patch or 16 patch blocks.
But each one would be different, plus you'd be cutting up some of the single rails into multiple pieces.
So you'd end up with more pieces, which means more seams.
And those seams cutting up a single rail - those can be noticeable if not matched up exactly.
So using partial seams eliminates that.
Plus, when people will be looking at YOUR quilt, you can watch them trying to figure out how the heck you did it.
That's always worth something. ;-)

Thanks to everyone on this thread. I saw the floral one yesterday and fell in love with it. Saved the pattern listed above, I would have never been able to figure out how to put it together. Now it's on my list of to do quilts (long list).

Thanks for the instructions MTS! I will have to sit down and play with some scraps to see how it progresses. My little brain is trying to picture it all in one sitting and it is not filling in the blanks well. May have something to do with all the blood they took out of my arm for my annual physical this morning or being put up on the rack to get checked out under the hood. I always have White Coat Syndrome when I go in for a visit. Happily the Dr's scales read 2.5 pounds lighter than my home scales did. What a relief! Tomorrow is another day to work in the garden. I will have to look at this more closely in the next few days. Thanks again, Ann in TN

I've looked at this pattern several times but I still don't get how it goes
together. I know how to make partial seams but I don't understand all the
steps. Could someone please make a tutorial? Even with strips of
paper or separate diagrams. This pattern has 5 steps all in one diagram.
So confusing. :(

Thanks for the pattern link! I think this would be a fun quilt to do ... and a good one to practice seam accuracy and straightness while mastering partial seams!

So I am asking if the "author" of the photo or anyone that has made a similar quilt could help me out!!!!
