The ring is a part of teacherbailey's life. It doesn't sound as if there is any bitterness left from the marriage/divorce. Why not incorporate it into a wallhanging if the kids don't want it?
Novice.for.now, I love your idea of a family tree.

If you don't want to sell that ring, donate it to charity. I am sure the money for it could do a lot of good.
I'm divorced since 1977 and the ring from marriage #1 is still somewhere. This hasn't affected my 31 year marriage with Mr. Stitchnripper and I think one of my sons wants that ring. So I vote with keeping/using in another way.

I'm with Elise1 a ring around the opening in a birdhouse. Or pass it on in your will to someone, in the meantime put it in a safebox somewhere.

I still have my ring from marriage #1, and my current hubby has his. We also have some old dental gold and other old pieces. We plan to send them in together when gold is high again and take a vacation with the proceeds. Kind of a cleansing. I wouldn't want to look at mine on the wall. Just sayin' ...

Sell the ring and buy fabric with it. At least you will have something to show for it.

I'm a crafter and quilter who loves, loves, loves using "found" or "weird" objects in small quilts.... So how could I use my ring? It's simple white gold with no stones. I would love to incorporate it into a picture or an abstract quilt of some sort, wall-size, not bed size.

I appreciate your ideas, the crazier the better.....logical ideas wanted, too!

    Thanks!!!!!
I think a little girl (Sun Bonnet Sue Style ???) with a Hula Hoop would be a great way to use your ring.

And I think using it in a quilt is fantastic.
