Make a practice block with scraps to get the feel for the pattern and above all else enjoy the process:)

Picture your niece opening up your wonderful quilt and the look on her face...

(I understand how you feel, too, btw...)

If your avatar is an example of your work--get going. I do the same thing. If you figure out why, let me know. I had the fabric and the pattern for a bargello quilt, and looked at it for at least a week. I even started dreaming about it. Finally started and it's comming along just great.

I can't get started either. I think I'll just wait for cold days when I can't be outside enjoying the warm weather. Summer is short, winter is long and dreary, so having pretty colors to look at helps me feel better.

Okay, just set a goal. Your first one might be to at least start and show us the pix of what you have after one hour of working on it.

I also have to be 'in the mood' for certain aspects of quilting. Some days I'm on a roll and don't want any interruptions and other days it's much better if I just leave it alone as if I try to do anything it will have to be done over.
So if today is a leave it alone day, get all those non quilting things done and out of the way so tomorrow you can do your quilt without those other things that needed to be done hanging over your shoulder.

The thing that takes the longest time in making a quilt is the procrastination. Just start and any fears you have will go away. If there is a problem about the quilt that is worrying you, you can't solve it until you get to it. And there is so much help on this board.

I knew you all would help get me going. I worked on it today and I'll try to post a picture or two tomorrow.
I think I know what my problem was. This butterfly quilt is one I started a couple of years ago..... but it got set aside until I decided that it would be a good one for my great-niece. It's always hard for me to finish a quilt once I've put it down..... but I'll keep at it and get it done. Promise!!
