The above is the web site that I got the pattern off of.

We had a birthday exchange in my quilt group. I gave out this pattern and gave out the white material. Asked them to make a block with any color or print that they wanted to choose. I got back 16 squares that range from 13 1/2" wide X 12 1/2" long to 15 1/2" square. I need to put a sashing to seperate the block but how am I going to make it look decent? I was going to enter it into a show in Sept. (Group division) not many in this group and I might get a ribbon but the police will have a heyday.

Don't know if it would work but...

Bring all up to 16" by tilting blocks and adding to all sides - giving them a wonky look.

or maybe stagger what you have & add flying geese, hearts, 4 patch blocks, etc. among what to have 'fill in' the blank spaces your smaller blocks leave. (you know how some BOM quilts look)

I would probably start by adding a border to all of the too-small and oddly shaped blocks, then cut them to the correct size.

I'd maybe use a different color for the sashing (maybe the same color as the previous fabric, though) and put the blocks on-point. Seems to me this might work.

Edit: Oh, I like the wonky idea too!

I would do as mommamac said and finish it kinda wonkified.....

Here is a picture of a log cabin with fussy cut centers that I made a while back. I just started making the blocks and when they looked good to me I stopped sewing, some of them were the correct size some were not I took the white fabric and sashed the ones that needed a "little extra" and didn't put anything around the ones that were the right size, I then put a block that needed extra next to a block that didn't kinda to make look like everything had been "sashed". You can even set them kinda "funky" if you wanted to whien your squaring them up.

Oh - who cares about the police! I do like the idea of the flying geese or some other block to square them up.

and Justwannaquilt's came out great with the sashing.

I'd add the filler elements like flying geese strips, etc
