I haven't quilted in years since my grandmother passed. Recently I finished my first machine quilt for my granddaughter. Things have changed and new terms are being used. I guess I am old school, we bought fabric by the yard and hand quilted on frames. Could someone please explain what a fat quarter is, a jelly role, and a layered cake?
    Thanks Barb

They are all precuts of fabric in different sizes. Check out this site for examples.

Welcome to the board from Ireland - hope you got all your sizes sorted. Sometimes you just don't want a whole yard.

    A fat quarter is 18x22 inches, a jelly roll is 2 1/2 inches I think and a layer cake is 10 1/2 I think.

If possible why don't you visit a quilt shop and find out all these new ideas and other things that are availble. When I go to a quilt shop it just blows me away with all the new stuff and I have been quilting for years. good luck Marge
