I absolutely love the idea of putting the quilt top in a plastic laundry basket and soak it that way in a tub. I've wrestled with a heavy wet quilt and it's not fun. Genius idea, thank you!

I have one of those old quilt tops given to me when the owner went into assisted living it is all hand pieced and absolutely beautiful and I am going to machine tie it as the ties will not show like using any other thread. I have done this on other quilts and they turn out really nice. I have done them with buttons and also using washable ribbon tying bows and putting them on by the machine not only fun but easy and fast

I have put the ties backward on some quilts as I like the look of "stitches" on the quilt top and the knots/strings do no detract from the front of the quilt.

If the quilt is too grubby for you to work on for any length of time like quilting, would it help if you basted it to hold it steadier. ?
