Welcome to the QB from SE Michigan! First of all your first quilt is awesome! I personally would applique your WV center in a different color so it stands out. NJQuilter gave a great idea on how to go about doing a perfect applique for your project. You are already on the right track I just can't wait to see it finished!

Welcome to the board; you’ll find lots of fun and support here!
I fail to see mismatched corners, I only see a beautiful quilt.
West Virginia has a challenging shape, and you may embroider it by hand or machine, appliqué the shape of the state in gold following NJ quilter’s instructions, or quilt the shape using thicker thread during the quilting process. Are you going to quilt it yourself?

That is a great quilt and any Mountaineer would love it! You have done a great job on this quilt. I think your instincts have been pretty good so far, so do what you think is best. If you want to stitch the shape on top of the blue, try out some hand stitches and some machine stitches on some other fabric. If you stitch by machine you will need a stabilizer under the fabric so your stitches won't pucker.

Thank you so much! And i picked up some shinny gold thread lastnight to use for my state outline which should make it pop very nicely i hope. Yes i plan on quilting it myself however that process scares the life out of me hehe being im only using my moms small sewing machine so i dont think i will be doing anything fancy on the quilting.

awesome! I plan on just machine sewing the outline in the center, i picked up some shiny gold thread to use hoping it gives it a good pop of color.
Welcome from NJ. For a first quilt with that many pieces and the offsets, I think you did a great job! Are you are planning to machine or hand applique your state outline? Just the outline or a piece of fabric of that shape appliqued? If you are thinking just the outlined shape and using your machine, I would just draw that outline on the fabric, pick your stitch and sew along. If you're planning to hand embroider the outline, same process.
If you are planning to use a piece of fabric for the state shape, I would cut out the shape of the state then use a very light interfacing and sew the interfacing to the right side of the fabric all around the edges. Cut a slit in the interfacing and turn right side out. Press the daylights out of it to make it nice and flat then use a blanket stitch around the entire shape. Depending on how large that piece is, you may need to something decorative in the center and machine stitch that down unless you are planning to quilt over that shape. If that's the case, no need to do any decorative stuff in the center.
Good luck and show us when complete!
