crathleen, it seems like you've got it figured out. I absolutely love to paper piece. I haven't done it in a while though. I look forward to seeing your finished product. :)

Hi Bella, do you mean that when you join the sections together, you sew through both layers of paper and fabric?

I see you got it figured out but I have a suggestion anyway. Place your fabric on top of your pattern to make sure it's big enough, including seam allowance. Then just finger press where the seam is going to be. Use the fold to align the fabric to make sure it's in the right place.

I love the hunter star block... and I plan to paper piece it also. Is the grain of the fabric important when paper piecing this block? If so, in which direction?

Good for you...I think I use the light as a tool when pping as much as anything else! I knew you'd be an expert by now...now go get some rest for those sleepy eyes!

One good thing about ppings is grain lines do not matter at all. As for scraps, I sew scraps together to make the pieces big enough to fit if I have to. You can really get scrappy sewing different scraps together to use for p.piecing.

key, I was doing that and that was where I was having problems. I figured out if I hold my piece vertical and the short end (using a strip of fabric) is up by #4 that after I sew it and open it it's long enough to cover the "star" point.
It's so easy now and I feel like a dope for not figuring it out sooner.
I'm so greatful that I'm getting it downpat because I have 2 pp projects I would love to do.
One's a cardinal (My favorite bird!)

    I also have the bluejay!

When I opened them up to look at the pattern, I nearly fell out of my seat. LOTS of pieces and some of them are smaller than my pinky fingernail!

ct, since I'm working with scraps and i'm sewing it down to paper I'm not having any issues with which directions the grain is. If at the end I'm having problems with the bias I will put a border on otherwise I just might go borderless!
