Help - pattern ideas for "scrappy" lap quilt?

Jacobs Ladder - Another great idea - I had been looking at that very block to do a in a sampler quilt of blocks which had Biblical names for a very religious couple I know. It looked not too hard but an intro to triangles. I could do the background in a 'heavy cream' , darks in espresso, then the tan-latte's for the mid color. Hm...But visa versa sounds good - love to see a picture of the black-background one!

For my quilt, the dark may play better as the background than the light. decisions, decisions...
