    Default Help With Pattern

I am fairly new to quilting and recently bought two layer cakes called Alpine Woods by Benartex. I love the squares with animals on them and don't really want to cut them up. Does anyone know of a pattern for layer cakes that doesn't call for cutting them apart. I've searched and can't come up with one, maybe I'm not wording it correctly when I search. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This may give you an idea.

Thanks, CRO. It looks like I will need to purchase more fabric in their line. The Woodlands pattern is calling for 11.5 squares but the layer cake is 10X10. The Mt. View Lodge is asking for 2.5 X 14.5 strips and says to trim all panel centers to 10.5, so will also need to purchase more. I would like to see if I can find something using the 2 layer cakes I have. I appreciate your suggestion and have printed out the free patterns for future use.

Warm Wishes is a pattern that uses large focus squares with pieced squares. Look through the Warm Wishes in the QB Gallery and see if that pattern appeals.

Go to Google Images and type "shadowed squares quilt" into the search slot. There are a lot of images using the entire square and I think you might like it.

I love your Warm Wishes idea and I have made a quilt using that pattern before. I had a pattern that time which called for cutting blocks 6X6. Could you tell me how wide I should cut the three strips that I would sew together to make the unit that goes between the 10X10 blocks (which are the layer cake). Sorry to sound so dumb....but the truth is truth, I am.

A simple snowball with smaller corners would be an excellent way to keep your designs.

On a warm wishes, the solid (more or less solid) strips usually have a center strip that is a bit wider than the two on the ends. So to go with a 10" block, I'd cut two outside strips at 10" x 3.5 different colors (finish at 9.5 long and 3 wide) and the middle strip at 10" x 4" which would finish at 3.5 wide and 9.5 long

BQ2 might be another idea. Beautiful fabric.

Thank you so very much, GrannieAnnie. I am just not that good yet with figuring out how to change up patterns. I am going to use your measurements and will post a picture (my first) when done. Everyone on this board is always so helpful. I'm glad those less experience have a place to go. I'm excited to get stated, thanks again.
