Default Help pls, how wld you quilt this?

I've just started learning fmq, so can't do anything fancy. I need some suggestions on how to quilt the middle section. I'm planning to do something "curvy" in the borders as the middle is so geometric but I have no idea what to do in the middle. I could do SID on the vertical lines, but not the horizontal. The individual pieces are 1" x 2", so there are lots of bulky seams. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance. Don't have any quilting motif suggestions but do want to caution you to check your batting for the suggested distance between quilting.

How about a diagonal grid through the squares. This is my goto pattern when I'm stumped and it is easy to do with a walking foot on your DSM.

I think I agree with this -- the pattern is so busy you won't see a lot of the quilting so don't get too detailed. You can do some cool quilting in the borders to make the rest of it pop.

I think the center came out wonderfully, however, it is very busy. Quilting in this area will probably not show much, so I would go with a meander. Check the packaging on your batting to see how far apart you can quilt.

I quilted my Colorsplash quilts on the diagonal following the same fabric.

I agree. In this case, the fabrics are the star of the show. The quilting is just to hold it together. Here is a picture of a bargello variation I quilted for a friend. you can see the feathers in some places, but not much! If it had been mine, I would have done something simpler. Let those fabrics shine!

I agree with the others--go simple, straight lines on diagonal. The fabrics and pattern are your focal point on this one.
