So I am starting a quilt for kids, but either my math is wrong or it is just not adding up.

I have a four patch block to make the two color block section should be 3 1/2 by 6 1/2 then you sew those two sections to get your four patch block that should be 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 but 3 1/2 plus 3 1/2 is 7 right??? Even if you take the 1/4 inch seem in the middle that only is 6.75! I am sooo confused! I have went over it like 3 times now please help me understand!

Since each piece of fabric uses a 1/4" seam, you would subtract 1/2" off of the joining of 2 pieces. So it would equal 6 1/2.

This is a problem that we all have from time to time  Especially in larger blocks with 30 or 40 pieces LOL It can be mind boggling trying to remember all of these things :D:D:D
