HELP!!! Rotary cutter won't work
#11
The last time my rotary cutter did this to me, I had my husband (mechanically inclined) check it out and he reversed the "spacer" that is between the blade and the nut; whichever way I had the "curve" he reversed it and it worked great again.

I agree with cjsews - could be the mat. If you use a mat long enough, or press hard in the same line often enough (which you do if your blade is skipping or dull) then it will develop a depression that doesn't heal, and every time you go over that line it will seem like your blade is skipping, while it is actually a bad spot in the mat.

I've had the problem where the rotary cutter won't "roll" and I took it apart and used a drop of oil on the screw. Wipe off the excess, if any, after getting it back together. This fixes my cutter which is quite old.

Also, check the angle of your hand when cutting. I often seen classes where students do not have the angle correct and they end up 'cutting' on half the guard instead of the blade. Since I have begun to cut while seated the past few years, I catch myself doing this more often, too.

I had problem with my rotary cutter. A friend looked at it and changed everything telling me I had put it together wrong.i know I had put it together exactly as it had been. So try again and replace everything a different way as Cactus stitcher says.

I just turn my mat around to use the other side. Back in the old days, I use to buy another Olfa cutter because when on sale, it was cheaper than buy a new blade. So I have more than a few cutters.
