    I wouldn't spend the time messing with the vinyl; I'd just cover it. I know you'll do a great job

    Remove the vinyle, in one piece ,first by removing staples. Then cut the vinyle apart at the seams, , use these pieces as patterns to cut new fabric. I learned how to cover chairs and then a couch by this method, and had great success. Take your time and watch it go together . You can do it!! And your mom will be so proud!
