I thank your husband for serving his country and keeping us safe.

I don't know what the pattern is that you saw, but I think that it would be wonderful for you to use your stash for a welcome home soldier quilt. It would be especially meaningful because it is YOUR fabric. If you do have to get new fabric, how about online? You can do that when the kids are asleep.

(I hope you have some help with the 6 kids while your hubby is away.)

I'm sure that using your stash is a smart thing to do. Just choose colors you know he enjoys. It's really all up to you--your decision--as any pattern could be done with any colors (just about).

Retired USAF here. I thank you and your husband for your service. I think a picture quilt would be nice. Some pictures of the kids, you and things he will not see while he is gone. Print the pictures on fabric and make a quilt. Just a thought.

That is a great idea! I know that when my husband was deployed he loved to see the stuff that he was missing!

Our son is going to be deployed June 1. He has 2 3/4 little girls (one is still cooking).

I plan to make an "I spy" quilt for them. I thought at first I could do 2 (one for him & one for the girls) but realized it would be too hard. I plan to make one and then take pictures of it, laminate the pictures and send that to him so he can "play" with them online with the web cam when he gets the chance. Just an idea to bring the kids into the conversation if you have that ability so it's not just "dead air" when they talk.

Thank him and YOU for all you do. I know how hard it is on families during a deployment.
