Has anyone ever made a quilt out of baby Dresses? The girl doesnot want them cut. She wants a queen size quilt, with the whole dress she has 5 dresses & 25 tops.
Her child passed away 2 years ago & she now wants things put inot a quilt with only cutting the shirts.
Any suggestions?

I guess anything is possible. If what she wishes is to keep the dress looking as a dress, ask if it will be OK to separate the front and the back. You could applique the dresses to a whole cloth quilt, maybe after is quilted. That will keep the dress looking like a dress. If she really doesn't want to cut them, maybe you can applique the whole thing. It will be a real heavy one, but I guess that will not be a problem. If they are small you could arrange all 5 of them into one quilt. Just sewing a zig zag or blanket stitch around the whole thing. I can not imagine loosing a child. So sorry for her loss.

I envision a "memory" quilt of sorts with the entire dress used, possibly with batting between the front and back of the dress to give it some "puff." Maybe a picture in the middle, surrounded by the dresses with the shirts/tops towards the outer edge? It certainly wouldn't be a utility quilt. How tragic to lose a child.

Thanks All!
Yes,it is sad to lose a child and I think, I would rather keep her in my heart, rather than have a whole lot of her things around me,I would keep her picture & some of her favorite things, If you know what I mean I am too emotional!! I don't know if I would heep her clothes & and some of her stuff. I don't know! Thank God I don't have to make that decision!

When I lost my son I couldn't part with any of this things for several years. I can totally understand her need to keep as much intact as possible. I love the idea of adding batting to the dresses. I think that is a way I would go.
