I have been ising my Pfaff 2140 embroidery machine daily with no problem. Today I tried to use it and have big loops under the material. I have put on a new needle, cleaned the bobbin area. What is the problem caused by? Thanks, I am trying to make things for a craft sale and this has brought me to a grinding halt.

I just rethreaded it with the pressure foot up and checked the bobbin. Right now I am testing it by sewing a plain straight stitch with the same results.

good luck hon. i sewed some 6 inch charms together, did well until the last few. then the bobbin thread looped like crazy. i cleaned the machine and rethreaded twice. i finally took a paper receipt out of my garbage and put that on the top of the seam and sewed just fine. go figure.
the charms seem to have a bit of poly in them, not all cotton.

Whenever that has happened to me, in the past, it was because I threaded the machine wrong. My daughter called me recently to complain about her machine (same problem as yours) and I told her to rethread it and that's what it was. I hope you figure out the problem.

I have always been taught that if the bobbin thread loops or nests it's the top tension that needs adjusting. Tension problems are the worst. Forget the machine that does everything, I want one that has perfected the tension problem for good. :P

99 times out of a 100, it's the top thread not being threaded right or possibly a small portion of thread broke off & lodged somewhere in the top where the takeup lever is. unscrew the side and open it up and have a look in there. just remember this, if the mess is on the bottom of fabric, then the top thread is the culprit and vice versa. the top tension usually never has to be adjusted. and for sure never bother the bobbin tension.

I saw the title of this post, about tension, and the first thought in my head was "Yours or the machine's?". :D

My tension and the machines................we were both off the wall.lol. Went to the sewing shop today and yes. it was the top tension. I was shown how to thread the machine on the other side of the tension disc and voila, all better. I'll take it it in to be cleaned after this bout of sewing is done. Thanks for all your great suggestions.
