There is a way to make hexagons using circles. Mason jar lids were used in former years as the gals making them could all use the same size lid and swap hexagons. For the directions go to Hexie?s From Circles-31 Days of Scraps | Nita Beshear ?

The paper templates are ironed on and left in the hexie and it dissolves when washed. She also uses a glue stick to baste the hexes. I saved the link because I thought that it looked interesting. I don't know how expensive the materials are.
