Why not call Keepsakes and ask that the ruler needed be sent free as it was not listed in the kit description as needed to make the quilt. I know I would call and ask for it. Keepsakes should know better. This will be a great way to know how good their CS really is.

As you said, she suggested a specialty ruler but it is just a suggestion, I'd try a sample with a triangle ruler and then one using a template. You might actually prefer another method.

I quite often will make my own templates too if it is a ruler I probably won't use again. I don't know about the hexagon though since I have never made a quilt with hexagons. Good luck & I hope everything works out good for you.

I have a hexagon ruler that ranges from 1-1/2" to 5-1/2". Can't remember where I got it, but it is the EZ Quilting brand and says "Darlene Zimmerman" on it. I use it on a small cutting mat so I can rotate it and it works great. Good luck on your quilt.

Lynn Wilder designed the pattern and sells it on her website sewinwildoaks.blogspot . When you click on the pattern, a new window opens and shows the pattern for $12.95 and a 2" hexagon template for $9.95. It looks to me like you will be piecing a hexagon shaped log cabin block. I think it was Kaye Wood who showed how to cut hexagons with her starmaker template. Sometimes the clover or EZ quilting website will show how to cut different shapes with a single template.
Try googling "cutting hexagons with omnigrip ruler" or substitute a different brand name like EZ Quilting.

Not sure if this will help, but here is the tutorial for this quilt, by the designer...it's not a Jaybird pattern for those who thought it was. And she's not using the hex -in-more ruler by Jaybird.

as stated I do believe kay woods has/had a video on her version of this pattern....and F&P in one of their scrappy quilts publications......
