I use self gluing floor tiling they work great right height, and as long as you don''t cut pieces out of them, they can't be beat and you can always find them on sale or someone has a few laying around. they cut real easy with old scissors

One of the gals doing The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt with us recommended the clear frosted plastic binder dividers. They have a little colored scalloped edge on them. I think 10 sheets cost under $4.00. Very reasonable cost, and they work beautifully.

I can't just hop in the car and go and get something since I can't see well enough to drive anymore. So I have used the foam trays meats come on just wash well and dry. Also have used the cardbard from cereal boxes and for english piecing index cards work great.

I have used these mats for quite some time - in the kitchen. Now another use. These are flexible mats. Sometimes they come in colors other than clear. Also, sometimes have writing such as "meat", "veggies", etc. I buy them at Ocean State Job Lot. Try Big lots. Also some drugstores have them. Good luck in your search and thanks for the tip for quilting.

Plastic in meat cartons, milk cartons, any kind of clear plastic that I can salvage, I do a lot of applique, so small pieces are just fine, love to recycle and save $$$$
