I am planning on making a quilt for my hippie daughter. Has anyone ever made a quilt using corduroy fabrics?

No, but I have been sewing crazy patch cordoroy in big blocks and I like it. I'm using an old mattress pad for the foundation. Most of mine is the fine wale.

I used wide wale corduroy for a quilt for my son. He went with me to Joanne's and we found a piece of solid olive green he liked so we cut large 12 1/2" squares and simply turned them to make it look interesting. It was incredibly heavy and we tied it. It was quite warm as well since we used a flannel sheet for batting as well as backing. I think using the fine wale would be much easier to work with and you could probably find some old clothes at thrift stores that would work well. Good luck. Give us a picture when you finish it.

I think I'm going to make a Duvet cover. I plan to use fine whale mostly, but mix in some wide whale too. I've found a picture of the "tree of life" and I think I'm going to attempt to do some applique on it as well. I've done very little applique in the past - wish me luck!

    Love your jacket, Joanie.

A friend of mine did a rail fence with corduroy. She gave it to me, I used a thin flannel sheet and muslin backing, tied it, and donated it to the local Humane Society for a fund raising raffle.

There is actually a quilt floating around in my family somewhere that my Great-Grandmother made, and it's got lots of courderoy in it. It's ridiculously warm. Good luck, I'm sure it will be wonderful!

I made a quilt from my old clothes, lots of corduroy, cotton velvet, denim and wool blends...did a bit of applique as well. It is my favourite and it is very warm. Most people who see it draped on the couch have to stop and touch it...very tactile quilt.

I recently finished a corduroy quilt that was commissioned by a friend who provided the fabric. It was a mix of colors, wale widths, weights and degrees of stretch or not. I had originally intended to do a modified log cabin design, but the squares came out all cockeyed and different sizes, so I just used the 8" centers for most of the squares, used some of the 2" strips for a few rail fence squares to create a diamond pattern on one side, then used the remaining 2" strips for the border/binding. Since I had the same size squares on both sides it was really easy to tie in the corners of the squares. This thing is heavy as all get out, being corduroy on both sides, but really warm.
