My grandmother who was a dressmaker by profession had worked and saved for a very fine pair of scissors that she only used on silk and fine fabrics, not even cotton. One day my grandfather was repairing metal mesh screens on the windows and used those scissors to cut screen. My mother said she recalled the ensuing argument as being loud and long. After a month of silence he replaced the scissors which she then kept in a locked drawer.

There are many pairs of scissors around the house- but all my sewing scissors and rotary cuttes are well hidden from everyone - sometimes I have a problem finding them

I seem to have solved this type of problem when I moved my sewing room upstairs. Just to be on the safe side, I put 2 pair in the kitchen, 1 on my desk and 1 in my granddaughter's room. So far, no one has made the trek up the stairs to get another pair. Definitely knocking on wood here. :-)

I have a pair of Wiss shears that I bought when I was expecting my son. Made all his baby clothes. Recently I found my DH with them. I threw a fit! He just thought they were a pair of "old" scissors that I don't use. Now, he knows that if scissors are in the sewing room, they are a "no touch" item. My son turns 55 this year.

I have to say, David, that I keep a pair of utility scissors in every room of my house. At least 4 pair in the kitchen. No children here any more and with a husband who uses tools that need to be sharp, he knows not to use my sewing scissors. Go to the dollar store and stock up on cheap scissors and find a cup or container and place them all around the kitchen or wherever they may be needed. Good luck!

Your grandmother must have been related to mine. I lived with mine for 1.5 years and almost the exact same thing happened in their house. Grampa not only bought her new scissors but a huge bunch of flowers to go along with them.

My husband learned a long time ago touch my scissors and find yourself minus a finger, the second time you lose your hand you see where I am going here

My kids used to cut marshmallows with mine. I wasn't quilting at the time but I was sewing clothes for them. They tried to wash off the sticky but didn't get it all off so I knew they had used my scissors.
