Husband has been taught to NEVER go to my quilting room for tools. If they are not in the junk drawer, keep out. I have found that if he ever crossed the line, it only took once or twice to take one his tools and move it to a new location. Then when he asked where it was, I told him I had to use it like when he used my quilting scissors...
He has since left anything in the room alone, except for the occasional permission to use items from there that he first asked about. It really worked.

I suppose I can't help it choosing that method after being a first grade teacher!

You should get a 'quilter's tool' pouch like the carpenters have - anything in the pouch is off limits...your solution is fine until you lose the key...LOL
