It looks like MSQC half hexagon template. The colored section has been cut in half and a strip added to widen it. The white part looks like the half hex cut in half and turned to make an even row.

If that's what it is, maybe the person doing this made an error in making her ornaments pattern and added the piece in the center vertically instead of horizontally...and created orphan "blocks" when she figured it out. How many of these do you have? If not too many why not add plain fabric in a long vertical row, or add the "ornaments" at the top and plain fabric under it?

They look like they are parts of a churn dash block to me but lanterns would be pretty.

I'm hoping these ring a bell with someone and you can tell me what block they came from, so I can finish them.

Thanks for looking and for any suggestions.

It looks like the top and bottom row of the Alaska Homestead block. Check it out here. Scroll down. https://www.sharonhollanddesigns.com...over-triangles

The rows of lanterns would be pretty with an thin accent colour in the middle between the given sections to highlight the top and bottom blocks.
It will be colourful when finished

Yes, that's the closest one yet... if I trim off some of the white chisels. It looks like I'm going to have to use a lot more fabrics and do a lot more work to get these into some big square blocks.

    Thanks for your help.
