I receive free blocks form quiltblock pro daily and have seen numerous paper pieced sailboat blocks -- just have not saved them as I am unlikely to do a sailboat quilt. You might check there. I also recently purhased a book on small quilts off of ebay and it contains directions for sailboat quilts as one quilt option. You might also check either option.

Just taking a moment to thank everyone who has taken the time to help me with this! I so appreciate the links, the drawings as I'm such a visual learner!

Thank-you to AlienQuilter and Reginalovestoquilt....Oh Snap! I love Jennie's tutorials and NEVER thought to look there....sure enough it is a GREAT tutorial. I had already committed to the other pattern but I think I may go ahead and do Jennie's quilt to have a baby quilt in reserve! I didn't think I would have baby quilts to make but three in one year.

    Hugs to All!

I totally agree with you RGAY I have learned so much from Jan in VA, not just from this thread but her generosity in sharing and teaching on multiple threads always amazes me. What perplexes someone who has painted themselves in a corner, she takes her time to gently guide them through that stumbling block.

There are several quilters here on this board who encourage, teach, share it is an amazing community! What absolutely blows me away...is the attitude of encouragement no matter the valley we all find ourselves in from one time to another, be it, quilting or a life situation.... there is always multiple posts of people encouraging us with the firm understanding of BEEN-THERE-DONE-THAT, let me lend you hand. Wowzers!

Jan you are marvelous! You broke it down so easily. If I ever need help, I will holler in the direction of Virginia.

My first reaction to the sailboats four in a row, was to do the sailboat bottoms in a continuous strip with their backgrounds. They are both the same shape. Fabric saver. Make the sails with the HST's and fill in the background piece above the small sail. There would be a strip between the sails blocks the same width as the space between the boats bottoms. Then sew the bottoms strip to the sails strip. I haven't done it, but just had an idea that could work.
