Default How big do you make your baby quilts?

I am working on two baby quilts for some ladies who are having boys this summer. I was wondering what size do you all usually make your baby quilts? I was reading in one of my quilt books 23"x46" but now I am thinking that might just be the size of the crib mattress. Ill have to go back and read it again. It doesnt look the right size to me. I just finished my quilt top but I think I am going to need to add some more blocks *sigh*

this is a pic of it before I sewed it together

    Super cute fabrics :-)

As for your question as big as I want to, yes I know thats no help hahahaha I tend to make them oversized 40x50 or bigger. In my experience most crib quilts are not used in the crib for very long, but can be used on the floor or couch, in the car, just to wrap up in or later on toddler beds.

If you want to make it bigger more blocks or a border or both.

I think yours is too narrow--the 23" should be closer to 36". Although they vary a lot, I think most baby quilts are at least 36" square, or bigger rectangles (40x50"), but at least 36" on one side. Hopefully you have more fabric and can just add more rows to widen it some.

I make mine plenty big..45" x 40" or so. I usually think about laying a baby on the floor on the quilt...they need a little wiggle room

I asked this question a while back. I got almost as many different answers as I did people answering so I don't think there is a 'right' answer. You may want to visit this thread: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t-t233713.html

If anyone still wraps a baby " burrito " style - square works best.

I make mine 40 x 50. You can make yours any size you want to.

I generally make mine anywhere from 30-40 x 40-50. I don't think there is any set size - most crib batting is 45 x 60.

The right answer is what ever size you want to make it. I will say that a crib batting is normally around 45 x 60
