I have alot of fabric that would work well for an I spy quilt and want to cut into charms. How big should I cut them?

I used 5½" squares. Maybe make sets in 2 or 3 sizes.

personally, I like 6 1/2 inch squares for my eye spy blocks...mostly because that is the width of my ruler 61/2 x 24 inches. I use a 2 1/2 inch strip of sashing fabric with a 2 1/2 inch corner stone block.

If you purchase a quarter yard of novelty fabric, you should get 6 nice fussy cut blocks for your quilt or to share!!

I like 6 1/2 sqaures that way I can cut them down for hexagons, fussy cut or use them in a square in a square like Anita Grossman Soloman has in her book rotary cutting revolution.

I did not have enough variety to make a true I Spy quilt but I am collecting for one.

I like to do mine in pairs too so you can play matching games. I use 6.5 inch squares, 6 x 7 so I don't hsve to piece the backs plus I quilt them by sewing wide rickrack on the seams. Red usually borders all kids fabrics nicely. That & a scrappy binding & (as they say across the pond) Bob's your uncle!

Thing is, getting all of those prints you will cut out together before making the determination I think.

Seeing these are little chidren's quilt, 5.5" sounds like a good size tho.

6-6.5 are the sizes the swaps are doing at present time. These do work out better IMHO.
