lol, that's funny. I see your point. My avatar is just a pocket on a tote, and people have inquired about a quilt pattern.

I also usually like to know at least the size of the block... It helps when looking at a new styled quilt I have not seen before, also the name of the quilt pattern, because we all know there are thousands out there and I do not know them all. Also, whenever I ask a question on what size block, or the name of the style of pattern, it usually goes unanswered in between all the ooh's and ahh's. So having a bit of information beforehand is really helpful. Andddd, I have also at times PM'd the poster to ask a question (when my question was not answered on the post), and I would have to say that more often than not... I never receive a reply. So messaging someone does not always work - and it just makes me feel bad asking... As if i am bugging someone.

Well, when someone states how big the quilt is, I can usually figure out the entire pattern/block size easier. Then I can draft what I want it to be for me on graft paper.

Exactly ....... ITS!!!!
And besides, there is not just one size to make any block.
You CAN do your own thing.
Eg. you can take most any pattern and re-create it however you wish.
Some like to do the itsy bitsy minis .... look at OKSewGlad's one she posted the other day with 1/2" HSTs!
You could do the exact same layout/design .... and make it with 4" or 10" HSTs .... whatever you want!
Graph paper is indispensable to figure these things out.
... and yes, maybe one doesn't know how or is not used to this, but golly gee, it can always be an opportunity to learn a new skill!

Hey, how great for experienced quilters... But you are forgettin about the inexperienced. I think she posed a valid question.... At the very least let people know what pattern was used. For some designs it is not that simple.... Otherwise people would't be purchasing patterns, or asking for a tutorial. Just my two cents.

Not at all ... you seem to forget we were all there at one time.
And believe-you-me ... I have a lot to learn yet.
Google works wonders.
The search function on this site too.
Countless threads are here often explaining the exact thing that has been asked.
And ironically enough, how many times that has been the thread just before, by one or two, or after.
There's a thing called the "law of psychological reciprocity" ... giving people credit for their intelligence.
Quite frankly, that's what I try to do.
And too, there's an old Chinese Proverb
Give a (wo)man a fish and you feed him/her for a day.
Teach a (wo)man to fish, and you feed him/her for a lifetime.
Sometime you just have/need to learn to fish ... and learn to take a risk.
And guess what ... it pays off BIG time and with HUGE rewards!

You can always pm the poster for dimensions or any lacking information for that matter. Works for me - I find people very helpful.
