How to choose batting?

I have always used warm and natural and have noticed so many of the long arm quilters are using Hobbs polydown. I was thinking that it was best to use all cotton batting if the quilt was all cotton. Can you clear this up for me? Also, isn't all cotton thread best for all cotton tops? Poly would seem so much stronger though.

I use the different batting for different quilts for people that like lightweight quilts, I use a poly. For those who like the feel of an old quilt I will use a heavy cotton. etc.... I like a coated cotton thread.

For meandering or simple designs I use warm and natural. For more detail and feathers I use the puffier stuff. And it also depends on if its a baby quilt. I wont use cotton in a baby quilt unless asked .

I think it is personal preference...I have for the last several used used the Quilter's dream batting...mostly the cotton select, but also the Quilter's dream wool batting is so wonderful to use.

I chose wool for my Lilies from the Ashes because it's being quilted by hand. My first to be hand quilted and I'll have help from my sewing group. We're all grandmothers and wanted 'easy' batting. After I read that wool was a dream to work, I felt it was worth the extra money.
