    I join batting scraps all the time. I use my stitch in the ditch foot, butt the edges on either side of the centre "fence" and use the widest and longest possible zig zag on my machine. I do trim the edges so they're straight before joining.

    this is the way I do it too. stitch in the ditch foot is the same as joining foot
