Well, let's think about this. Second sewing machine, try hand project. When I went for Memorial Day holiday, forgot my ruler to cut with. But I was lucky, whet to the closest town to JoAnn's. It's hard to pack and repack everything.
And then I must remember clothes, food and medicines for all of us. It seems like I always forget something.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I agree with what the others said. I have two machines. I used to have my first machine but sold it when I got a sewing/embroidery machine. My original machine was a workhorse and sometimes I miss her but I was happy that she was being used by someone now...
I think a trip to the second hand stores is in your future. I'd keep the back up machine in your home away from home. Just don't get something you don't like or else sewing won't be fun anymore. :'(
