The first one was Qauilt in a Day kit that was in a magazine and then he bought me a sewing machine and I thought I had a chance to sew straight with short seams. (I didn't know how wrong I could be. LOL) Took some classes and am, I admit, totally addicted.

Self taught I just do straight lines across or stitch in the ditch. I don't have a long arm machine.Just a good ol singer.

I have sewed all my life,but I never thought in my wildest dream I would quilt.
I saw my mother in law quilt, every fall she would put up her quilting frame( it hung from the celing ) and it stayed there all winter.I started volentering to help in the county quilt show, after I retired, that is when I tought myself to quilt.

Original teachers were my Grandmother, Mother & Aunt, then my Mother-in-law joined the group.

I was hooked and began taking classes at LQS, buying books & magazines and experimenting on my own.

I learned the same way you did. Had done much sewing since I was a child but never really quilted until I retired.

Three years ago I took a sewing class at Encore (a place for people 50+ that offer classes for free) I saw some of the people there making quilts and thought to myself that I could do that. I learned the basics through the class and a lot more through the book "Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting" I've been hooked ever since.

My momma taught me. Cut pieces and stitch. Still have it and she hand quilted it. Something I don't do but she ws old school. She ws the best

No one in my family are sewers so I've been going to local classes, but also learnt quite a bit off the quilt in day show, which was the only quilting show we got here, but sadly they have stopped showing it now.
