I was chatting with a friend that opened a mission house in our town. She was sewing on a quilt, strip quilting and as I watched her, realized I could do that. Well, that was quite a few machines ago, four FW, no didn't wear them out, traded them. And now through her mission house have completed many quilts that were donated with quilts of other ladies that learned to sew there, to our Veterans, bless them all. Been neigh onto six years at it now. Just a small thank you for all they have done for us.

Took a class at my local quilt shop, but really learned how to quilt by making tops for a design company for a few years.

Mostly self taught for the first years as no classes were available and there was no internet back then. Then books and magazines --when quilt magazines began to start up.

I used to cook for a senior center in Peoria, Az. and one of the ladys that helped in the kitchen got me interested in quilting. She gave me a bunch of blocks that she had put together along with a lot of scrap material. I have been addicted ever since. She used to paper piece but she used newspaper.

I learned by watching Eleanor Burns on Quilt In A Day & Alex Anderson on Simply Quilts. They are my foremost teachers. I've learned from books as well and other TV programs. I've also learned from the internet, by way of this board, other websites & blogs. In other words, I have to say I've learned from the collective quilting community. Thanks to all of you!!! Oh yeah, I'm still learning.

I learned how to quilt from my cousin, my sister, friends and by reading. I've not taken many classes because I don't like toting a machine and all the other things needed. I've learned a lot by challenging myself to piece more difficult quilts. I would never have thought thirty years ago that I would love making quilts or that I would become a longarm quilter but I totally love it all.

I'm mostly self taught but I started watching TV quilt shows, asking questions anywhere I could, & looking over the shoulders of other quilters. Little by little I learned all of the little tricks.

Mostly hard knocks- my mother is an advid sewer who sewed what we needed and the special Christmas/Easter outfits but quilting was something until now she just didn't have time for.
