    I use this stuff too.

Aside from putting grips on the bottom of the ruler, it's standard to keep half your hand off the ruler. This steadies the ruler because your hand is not likely to slip against the fabric.

Go to the quilt shop and get either the non - slip plastic/silicone dots or the sandpaper dots to adhere to the rule.

I have arthritis and carpal tunnel and holding my ruler and walking my hand up the ruler is difficult. I tried a few methods and have settled on using 20oz full water bottles to hold my ruler. I can easily lift them and place them all in one spot or place them along the ruler. This way I can lift my hand and then replace it and not have my ruler slip.

Someone once told me to put you thumb against the bottom edge of the ruler and that would prevent it from slipping. It had to be for small cuts to be able to that?
