I run very fast away from anything that says to use a "Y" seam. Even with Kaye Wood's help I still shudder every time I have to do one, so I avoid them like the plague. I very much like what Pennyhal said and will try that the next time I can't avoid a "Y" seam.

Thats what I would do too cut all the way across & use (if there was some left over) fabric from the front.
