Default How do you decide what to do next?

Is it just me or do any of you waste a lot of time deciding what to do next? I have so many patterns I want to do but, when it comes time to get at them, I,m overwhelmed. I have a lot of UFOS, but am always anxious to start something new. I spend so many $$$ on patterns and books and they just sit there and then I come across something better that I like and end up just procrastinating. Oh dear "what should I do", LOL.

I sorta have a hierarchy of which project to do next. 1) Any kit (fabric + pattern) is to be done first, since the fabric and pattern are all ready I go for it. 2) What kind of fabric do I have in my stash? What kind of quilt could I make that would use the most of this stash? 3) When was the last time I really got excited about a quilt pattern I bought or saw? I dig up the quilt pattern and get a jump start with my previous inspiration. 4) If all else fails and my mind draws a blank, I go to a small project (table runner, bag, etc.) Getting myself sewing on a project usually gets me inspired about other projects. And with a small project you are not making a big time investment, letting you start on another one when you want

You sound just like me! I try to make and finish a quilt, but some thing or some one always get in the way, and when I finally have time to get back to it, the enthusiasm is gone. Then I start another one and feel guilty about the UFO's!

I let the great Quilt Spirit guide me.

Right now it is finishing off some things I already have. I made a vow not to do anything new unless I couldn't pass it up. So far there is no class or pattern out there calling to me ... just what I already have. Though I still go to the LQS's to see and pet the various fabrics and look at what is going on.

I must have some sort of quilt virus.

I have tons of quilts I want to make. As I am hand sewing the binding on I start planning my next one. I am finishing up a scrappy quilt and plan to keep making them until I get most of the scraps used up. As soon as I finish one I start another.

I'm having that problem with my DGDs. So I'm putting together blocks for them to choose from. Asking them which they like best. Lot of good that did, they like them all. So I tried to narrow it down to color. Any color! Ughhh! Back to square one. Sort of!

I have a terrible time deciding what to do next. And I finish what I start before starting something new, so I don't even have any UFO's to finish when I can't make a decision. There are just too many possibilities!

Sounds like it's time for a scrappy sampler for the DGDs.

Deciding what's next is one of my favorite things. I don't have a backlog of specific projects, so I love taking the time to look through my books and magazine, browse pinterest and the board to see what might catch my interest. I'm doing that right now actually, looking for a baby quilt pattern for a charity event.

My problem is not STARTING a project, but FINISHING one!! Seems like once I see how the colors and blocks work together, I'm done with that one and am on to another. So many UFOs I'm not even allowed to participate in the Queen of UFO challenges at our guild!

Then again, I remind myself......there are many great artists who left work unfinished, and no one denies their genius!!

I think the point is not always to finish, but to "do"....and enjoy the process whatever it is.
