If I gave someone free range, then I would love whatever they do. I am sure she has a lot of confidence in your ability.

I think you do have to be careful not to get it too stiff. Also, are they planning to use it or save it? If they really want the quilt to be used, perhaps heirloom feathers and intricate quilting will discourage that - the recipient might think it is too "good" for daily use. Certainly I understand the desire to do the very best quilting you can, but this may not be the project to do that.

I would be thrilled to see someone cared enough to do so much

Have another interview with her again and go from there.

I agree totally. Also, if you're doing the baby's name, double and triple check the spelling and don't do it until they've signed and turned in the birth certificate. I know someone who encountered an unfortunate pitfall because the parents changed their minds at the last minute.

I have quilted written words into a quilt a few times, and the main downside is that it's mirror writing on the back.

It's nice to see how enthusiastic you are. I'm sure the quilting will be wonderful!

Can I send you my grandchild's quilt for you to go nuts on? I would love to have an heirloom quilted quilt. I would also encourage the parents to use it. Afterall, I want all my quilts used. The baby is due in November and I am going to find out soon what it is. Please show us what you end up creating.
