I was quilting away and suddenly a piece of lint fell from my needle of my longarm onto my quilt top that had oil on it and naturally when I tried to pick it up without smiring, it happened. I smirred it! :-(

Does anyone know how to get this oil smire out of the material?

This is the quilt with oil smire.

Just a thought - put a little baking soda on it and see it if pulls the oil out.

Put some cornstarch or talcum powder on it and hold your hands one over and one under the quilt and the warmth from your hands will warm the oil and the powder will absorb it. I have only every used talcum powder to do this but have read here somewhere about the cornstarch, my concern with that is that if residue remains it may go mouldy later if the quilt gets a bit damp. I could be totally wrong but have never had a problem with the other method. Good luck.

I wonder if dawn dish soap would work. It's the one they use to get oil off wild animals that get spilled oil on them. Just a thought!

I would try a product called LESTOIL. I use it on clothes around here when DH & DS are done working on their cars.

Dawn dish soap- the original one. Not the newer ones.

It is used to degrease oiled birds so it should work.

Please let us know if you find a solution that works... I am sure this has happened to others too. Good Luck!

I don't know what will take it out, but I had that happen to me with my regular machine. I made an applique of a butterfly and put it over it. No one knew the difference and everyone loved me butterfly. Always a way. Right!! LOL
