How do you mark your quilts?

If yhou let the markings stay in the fabric for more than a day it won't iron out. At least that was my expierence. I told that to a lady selling them at a quilt show I went to recently and she said that if it doesn't iron out it will wash out.

After reading ALL of the leads on this - I think I like the rice paper best. I have been concerned about trying any of the marking pencils and the soap method wouldn't work to trace a pattern. I want to thank everybody who has responded - a great learning experience.

I use silver, yellow pencils and chalk and I have started using the new Pilot Frixion pens. They are fantastic. I get then in a pack of 6 colors. Just be sure you read and follow the directions. I am also a hand quilter. I have had bad experiences with the blue and purple pens.
