If yhou let the markings stay in the fabric for more than a day it won't iron out. At least that was my expierence. I told that to a lady selling them at a quilt show I went to recently and she said that if it doesn't iron out it will wash out.

Use soap just ordered the Frixion pen from shop hop last weekend.

After reading ALL of the leads on this - I think I like the rice paper best. I have been concerned about trying any of the marking pencils and the soap method wouldn't work to trace a pattern. I want to thank everybody who has responded - a great learning experience.

It has to be 14 degrees before the marking reappears

I use the BIC mechanical pencils, they seem to come out ok so far. The main problem is the marks wear out pretty quickly, so I work in sections.

Where do you buy the Pilot Frixion Pens? Someone else posted about them not too long ago and I looked for them at Joann's but couldn't find them.

Joanns don"t carry the frixion pens and probably won't ever carry them. I don't think that is an item they would stock because of the many colors they come in.

try Staples. Just remember to test, test, test.
