I saw a picture earlier and it confused me. When you are sewing you sit with your machine infront of you and the fabric goes foward. When you quilt wouldn't it be the same way? I saw the quilt turned to the side and the bottom of the quilt all rolled up in that little open part( throat?). The woman was turned kind of to the side to. Does that make it easier? Is it more comfortable? When you are quilting which way do you turn your fabric, how are you sitting?
    thank you

That's just an alternate way to sit when free motion quilting. Some people find it easier to FMQ that way. Basically you have more freedom to move the quilt left and right, whereas with the traditional seating you have more freedom to move the quilt forwards and backwards.

I tried sitting with the machine head facing me but actually didn't like it as much as the usual seating.

It's just a matter of personal preference.

I never gave it a thought of turning to the side to FMQ. I can see how it might seem easier to go left to right and back to the left. I will have to try and let you know what I think.
