Default How do you "set" hand painted fabric?

I have a tablecloth that I want to turn into a quilt. Thrift shop find for $10 and beautiful. It's hand painted, on cotton and you can feel the layers of paint.

I am terrifed to ruin this fabric!

    Help please!

    Andrea

Does it look like it has been washed previously? If so, it has likely already been "set". Without knowing what type of paint was used, it is hard to say...
