How do you sort small scraps?
I am on vacation and plan to spend some time organizing my fabric. Last year I bought some fabric at a yard sale $5 for a large yard size trash bag - sight unseen. The lady was a dress maker so there are lots of cut pieces with curves and points.
I was thinking of squaring everything and sorting by 6 1/2 to 2 1/2, 12 1/2 to 6 1/2, then wrap larger pieces on boards.
How do ya'll sort?

I do agree with squaring everything up. Search around for some quit patterns you might want to make, and start with the sizes need for it. Have you seen Bonnie Hunter's scrap users system? It works very well if you tend to use pre-cut strips.

I'm one for sorting by color and washing the pieces (even when small!!!!)
Then leaving the pieces as large as possible and storing them by color or theme until a project comes up for them - THEN cutting to size.

Me too. I know some advocate for cutting into strips or squares but I prefer to leave all pieces as big as possible until I know how I am going to use them. Sort by color.

I only sort my batiks and then it's by color. Everything else (I'm slowly getting rid of it) goes into tubs. As far as scraps, I fold them but smaller scraps are kept in ziploc bags. 2 1/2 sq, 2 sq, 1 1/2 sq and then for mini log cabin blocks, anything more than 1/2 inch wide.
