I put my patterns in a plastic sleeve and place them in a notebook. I have a separate notebook for crib/children patterns. Every couple of years I go through the patterns and trash some of the patterns, those I have had for years and didn't make, changed my mind on the pattern for whatever reason. I do group the patterns together, like all the star patterns together, etc.

I use the 6" x 9" manilla envelopes, for the patterns with torn envelopes, I also use quart size ziplock (although you can't close them, the patterns are still protected). But I think what your asking is where do we put them? Right? I found years ago a fabric store going out of business and bought one of there pattern cabinets, and any filing cabinet will work too. Check your local thrift stores: salvation army, value villiage, or goodwill, I was also able to pick up 2 filing cabinets (the wider ones) at the local value villiage for $10 bucks each. Try craigslist too, businesses selling off there filing cabinets.

I have so many patterns I use the large plastic file boxes,
one for quilt patterns (on my third one) one for doll
clothes , one for craft items. I stand them up until they
are full, then put cover on and store on a shelf.
