Hi, am struggling to draft my cable design from stencil to paper pattern, which is cut to my quilt size. is there an easy way to draft. do I start from centre of each side and make adjustments at corners ? hope someone can see what I need to do. have had several attempts, but can't get it to match evenly. this quilt has been stuck in a cupboard for several years, quilted up to the border stage. just got to get it finished is too nice to be stuck in cupboard. thanks for help.

I stencil the corners first. Then I find the middle of the border strip and work out to each corner. You will have to fudge a bit. It might help to measure the "repeat" of the border, not including the corner.

Here are some pictures of what I did with the quilt I made for my DS's swim team raffle in 2010.

I adjusted the cable to make room for these embellishments.

thanks ChaiQuilter. your short sharp instruction worked for me.
have done 3 sides & had to fudge a small amount in centre. In principal this is looking good. will now attempt to quilt. having already quilted up to the final border I am
finding I might need to do a bit of easing. the border appears larger than it should be. should I undo or is this a normal apparition? am sure quilt was laying flat before measuring for borders. so long ago now, who knows. does it really matter ?
will start quilting & see what develops. see you all in a week or so.

What did you mean when you wrote that the border appears larger then it should be? The length of the border? The width? Either can be corrected. Did you stencil the border before attaching it to the quilt and then it stretched and messed things up?
