Default how to lengthen a quilt

The only way to lengthen a quilt that is square without changing the width too much is to add larger sized borders on top and bottom? Is that my only option?

you can find some blocks that coordinate with the center and add them to the top to make it go over the pillows or add to the top and bottom just for your own design decision.

Can you add another row of blocks? Picture would help.

Or, if the quilt body is rows of blocks you can add extra rows before the borders. There are a number of ways to add length to a quilt without adding width.

    Lots of options ....

Add more of the blocks used in the body of the quilt
Add a pieced border to the top and bottom
Add larger borders on the top and bottom

If it's going to go on a bed, the pillow tuck is often different, so add a row of blocks on the top. If it's not going on a bed, add a row of blocks to the top & bottom.
